On 8 November 2023, the Supreme Court of Appeal handed down judgment on the right of prisoners to use personal computers in order to further their studies while incarcerated. The court ruled that the policy prohibiting prison inmates’ use of personal computers in their cells is invalid. It ordered the Department of of Correctional Services and the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services to come up with a new, legally valid policy on the use of personal computers in prison cells.
