On 16 January 2024 the High Court handed down judgment in a matter challenging the constitutionality of the “ID blocking” practice of the Department of Home Affairs. Lawyers for Human Rights was the Second Applicant in the matter, on behalf of over 100 clients who had their IDs blocked. The High Court declared that, in the absence of a fair administrative process, the Department’s ID blocking practice is unjust and irregular administrative action that is inconsistent with the Constitution and invalid.
