The ANC has given Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir the green light to return to South Africa to attend the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation in December.
Minster of International Relations and Co-operation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, speaking yesterday at the party‘s National General Council meeting in Midrand, said President Jacob Zuma had sent invitations to members of the forum and that no special requirements had been imposed on any member.

The High Court in Pretoria has granted an application that individual management members of the Tshwane University of Technology be joined in contempt of court proceedings against the university.
Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) said they believed management members who caused TUT to disobey an urgent court order allowing evicted students to return to their residences during protest action in 2014 should be held personally accountable for contempt of court.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and three of its top officials – including vice-chancellor – must explain to the high court in Pretoria why they should not be held in contempt of a court and face a fine of R30 000, or six months imprisonment, in a sequel to last year’s protest action at its campuses.
The alleged contempt followed last year’s eviction of students from campus residences during which the court issued an urgent order allowing the evicted students to return.

The Department of Home Affairs has pleaded with the Constitutional Court to reconsider a decision to dismiss its appeal regarding an office for refugees.
The appeal relates to the decision to close down the Refugee Reception Office in Port Elizabeth.
The Constitutional Court's refusal to hear the appeal means the Department has three months within which to re-open the office. This was the order of the Supreme Court of Appeal which also has implications for the Cape Town office which had also been closed down.

Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo says he wants clarity from the courts on how evictions should be carried out as tenants are often treated in an inhumane way during the process.
Mamabolo announced he will be taking a test case to court in order to protect the rights of tenants evicted from their homes.
Over the past weekend the MEC expressed his unhappiness at how residents were treated during evictions in Hillbrow last month.
He says there are issues with the interpretation of the law that need clarity.

Mamabolo expressed unhappiness at how women, children and people with a disability were treated during evictions.
"Those residents still have rights. The fact that they are in debt does not mean their rights do not matter. The question is what does the court say about their rights.
